Personality and Abilities
Jan. 11th, 2014 11:22 amRaphael is mostly just an average guy on the outside. He tries to make ends meet the best he can and loves his home of Paris greatly. He's not dense, nor is he exceptionally smart. He's good, but not to the point of complete selflessness. He has petty thoughts and desires like most people, and isn't above a snide remark or two, but he's also willing to lend a hand to those in need usually and feels bad when he needs to take advantage of or wrong someone to work towards the bigger picture. He's not easily pressured or deterred, and can be pretty headstrong. He's pretty lighthearted and seems easy enough to get along with.
Despite being the famous thief, Phantom R, Raphael isn't greedy or out for profit. There is always a good reason for his actions and he tries to keep damage to a minimum. He acknowledges that stealing is wrong, but he also actually enjoys his double life. He's normally cautious enough that not many people outside of the police have ever seen R and so he's usually comfortable interacting with people as either the thief or himself. Even as R he doesn't always introduce himself and Fondue, but he almost always does when it's polite to as Raphael.
As Phantom R, he comes off as an almost totally different person even though he really isn't. He's suave, confident, energetic, rebellious, and daring, attracted to mystery and excitement. Even though he's a thief, he doesn't try to hurt law enforcement and will even save their lives if needed. He's still kind enough to sometimes help out the average person in trouble, even things as trivial as a balloon getting stuck in a tree. He doesn't go looking for fights normally, but won't back down from one especially when something's at stake. He's smart enough to know when it's a better idea to make himself and his friends scarce however.
Raphael's father is a large influence on him. He often thinks back on how things were when his dad was around, and he became R to return what his father stole without anyone knowing anything. He doesn't seem to hate him, only wants to find him and at least understand why he left. Fondue is the extension to his family and his closest friend, and he is treated much like a human by Raphael who speaks to and listens to him like any other person. He seems to understand what goes through the dog's head easily, though maybe not word for word, and relies heavily on his support.
Abilities
Most noticeably, Raphael has an unnaturally good sense of rhythm, inherited from his late mother. He is very nimble and sure-footed, able to read patterns where they appear and apply that ability to anything from dancing to puzzle-solving to combat.
He's also very fit and agile. He can brawl, but his greatest strength is that he can fluidly evade physical attacks and outmaneuver his foes. He can leap long distances even while carrying another person as well.
Raphael is in possession of a bracelet of which the nature is mostly unknown. It once showed the ability to levitate an entire group of more than ten armored men when he was desperate to save Marie. But it only lasted just long enough for him to grab her and escape and wasn't something he knows how to active. It was also tied to the floating Babylon gardens but again was never clarified the exact nature of the connection.
